Semcon wins two Red Dot Awards for product design.
An innovative marine searchlight from Colorlight and an advanced measurement instrument developed with Orexplore are Semcon’s two winning contributions to the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2017. The solutions were designed at Semcon’s offices in Gothenburg and Stockholm.
Contributions from 54 countries were reviewed by 39 leading experts in what is often described as the world’s largest design competition, the Red Dot Award.
The prizes are really great recognition for our extensive work in product design. These examples also show how Semcon works to strategically design products with its customers, something that is unique among technology companies
One of the prizes is for the design of a completely new searchlight for marine applications that uses LED technology. The solution is smaller, lighter and more effective than traditional halogen lamps. The design is alert, compact and facilitates cooling and servicing. The client is Swedish company Colorlight.

The other prize is the result of a collaboration with Orexplore to design a measurement instrument for minerals that analyses drill cores far below ground. The design takes account of the very challenging external conditions and communication with the operator, at the same time as being elegant and futuristic.

A total of 120 designers work at Semcon, in four offices in the Nordic region. The company works with three design approaches: UX design, Product design and Technical design. Each one has a complete set of specialists in its field.
